Loose Lips Sink Ships - Hegseth is really testing this hard
Pete Hegseth is still using Signal for Pentagon business-he’s got a whole setup in his office just for it, and sources say he’s running multiple Signal group chats about military operations, travel, and his agenda, often from his personal phone. Even with the Defense Department’s inspector general investigating whether he’s breaking security rules or sharing classified info, Hegseth hasn’t stopped. In fact, reports say his Signal use is even more widespread than people thought.

Now, there’s another app that tried to be like Signal but totally missed the mark-TeleMessage. Unlike Signal, which doesn’t store your chats, TeleMessage archives everything for “compliance,” which means those messages are sitting on a server somewhere. Turns out, that’s a huge problem: hackers broke into TeleMessage in less than 20 minutes, grabbing message contents, group chats, contact lists, and even backend logins. The breach exposed communications from government officials, including people at US Customs and Border Protection and some financial regulators. After the hack, TeleMessage yanked the app offline and is scrambling to figure out what went wrong.

Hegseth is still going all-in on Signal for official Pentagon business, even under investigation. Meanwhile, TeleMessage-used by folks at CBP and in finance-got hacked almost instantly because it stored everything, proving that if you say you’re “like Signal” but actually keep records, you’re just making yourself a target.

Trump’s “Very, Very Big Announcement”. All Hype, Zero Details
Trump is once again working his hype machine, teasing what he calls a “very, very big announcement”-supposedly one of the most important declarations in years. He’s said it could drop Thursday, Friday, or maybe Monday, right before his Middle East trip. But here’s the thing: he hasn’t given a single clue what it’s actually about. No topic, no details, just the usual dramatic build-up. He claims it’s “really, really positive,” but that’s about all anyone knows. Even Canada’s Prime Minister Carney joked he was “on the edge of his seat.” This is classic Trump-keeping everyone guessing, dominating headlines, and soaking up attention without actually saying anything concrete. The press and the public are left hanging, waiting to find out if this is a real policy shift, a new deal, or just another round of showmanship.

Trump Administration Shuts Down CDC Infection Control Committee. Experts Sound the Alarm
Here’s something that actually happened, and it’s a big deal: the Trump administration just shut down the CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC), the group that set the gold standard for infection control in U.S. hospitals. This committee wrote the rules on hand-washing, masks, and isolating sick patients-the stuff that keeps hospitals safe and stops outbreaks before they start. The shutdown took effect March 31, but members only found out weeks later. The official reason? Trump’s push to shrink the federal workforce, even though health experts and professional societies begged them not to axe this group.

Now, all the committee’s guidelines are frozen in time. No more updates, no adapting to new threats like drug-resistant bugs or lessons learned from the pandemic. Experts are worried that without HICPAC, hospitals will be flying blind as new diseases emerge and old ones get tougher to fight. This isn’t just bureaucratic shuffling-this is cutting out the brains behind infection prevention, and it’s got public health leaders seriously concerned about what comes next.

World Cup/Travel to US Tanking
JD Vance’s “joke” about deporting World Cup visitors isn’t just embarrassing-it’s bad for business, and it’s exactly the kind of thing that’s already driving people away.

Travel to the U.S. is tanking. We were supposed to see a huge bump in international visitors this year, but instead, there’s been a sharp drop. The numbers don’t lie: international arrivals are down nearly 10% for 2025. Canadian air travel to the U.S.? Down over 13%. Land crossings from Canada? Down almost 32%. European visitors are down 17%. Even flights from Mexico are down 23%.

And it’s not just the strong dollar or inflation-people are literally choosing not to come here because of how we’re acting. Trump’s hardline immigration stunts, all the travel bans, and stories about travelers getting hassled at the border have made the U.S. feel unwelcoming, even hostile. Tourism experts are warning that anti-American sentiment is now a real factor, and the industry is bleeding billions-$9 billion in lost visitor spending this year alone. We went from a travel surplus to a $50 billion deficit in just a couple years.

So when Vance stands up and cracks wise about deporting people after the World Cup, he’s just confirming what people overseas already fear: come to America, and you might not feel safe or wanted. After the last 4.5 months of this administration, international travelers are already staying away in droves. If we keep operating like this, don’t be shocked when our stadiums are half empty and local businesses miss out on the World Cup windfall. We’re not just losing visitors-we’re losing our reputation as a country worth visiting.

National Forest Land will soon be Devastated
As someone who loves spending time outdoors, this is honestly devastating to hear. Trump’s new orders just opened up more than 100 million acres of national forests for logging-that’s an area bigger than California, covered in trees, now on the chopping block.

The States affected are:
California (all 18 national forests)
Washington (all national forests, including Olympic, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie, Gifford Pinchot, Okanogan-Wenatchee, Colville, Umatilla)
Oregon
Montana
Utah
Colorado
Arizona
New Mexico
Wyoming
Wisconsin (Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest)
States in the South (includes national forests in states like Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Texas)
Great Lakes region (includes Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin)
New England (includes Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island)

The administration says it’s about wildfire prevention and boosting the timber industry, but a lot of experts and environmental groups are warning this could wreck habitats, pollute water, and ruin some of the best wild places left in America. For anyone who enjoys hiking, camping, or just being out in the woods, it’s gutting to think about so much wild forest-gone.

What’s Going On Between India and Pakistan?
Why are they fighting?
It all goes back to 1947, when the British split up India and Pakistan. There’s this region called Kashmir-mostly Muslim, but the ruler at the time joined India instead of Pakistan. Both countries want it, so they’ve basically been fighting over it ever since. They’ve had several wars, and both sides now have nukes, which makes everything a lot scarier.

Why is it flaring up now?
- Just recently (April 2025), there was a terrorist attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan (as usual), Pakistan denied it (as usual), and then India launched airstrikes into Pakistan.
- Pakistan shot down some Indian jets and threatened to hit back even harder.
- Both sides are talking tough, but nobody really wants a full-blown war-especially with nukes in the mix.

What could happen next?
- Best case: They keep it to some cross-border skirmishes and tough talk, but it doesn’t blow up into a real war.
- Worst case: Someone miscalculates, things spiral, and we’re looking at a serious conflict-possibly even nuclear.
- Meanwhile: Regular people in Kashmir are stuck in the middle, dealing with violence, lockdowns, and no say in what happens to them.

Where does the U.S. fit in?
- The U.S. is kind of stuck. We want to be friends with India (to counter China), but we also don’t want things to get out of hand between two nuclear countries.
- Officially, the U.S. is telling both sides to calm down, but behind the scenes, they’re trying to get other countries involved to help cool things off.
- If the U.S. picks a side too openly, it could mess up our relationship with either India or Pakistan, and that’s a headache nobody wants.

India and Pakistan have been fighting over Kashmir for decades, and every so often, things get really tense-like right now. Both sides have nukes, so everyone’s on edge. The U.S. is trying not to get dragged in, but if things go sideways, it could get ugly fast. And as usual, it’s the people in Kashmir who suffer the most.

Trump’s Birthday Party using our nations Military
This military parade for Trump’s birthday is a total waste of our tax dollars and a slap in the face to real American priorities. While veterans struggle to get care and people are told there’s “no money” for basic needs, Trump wants to blow tens of millions-maybe even $100 million-on a giant ego trip with tanks, helicopters, and soldiers marching for his birthday. This isn’t patriotism; it’s authoritarian theater, and it’s up to us to shut it down.

Let’s make some noise and be seen. There’s a nationwide “No Kings” protest planned for June 14, Trump’s birthday and Flag Day, right when this parade is supposed to happen. The “No Kings” coalition and groups like Voters Matter are organizing people to show up everywhere Trump isn’t, to remind America that real power comes from us, not from some staged spectacle.

Here’s how you can take action right now:
Change.org Petitions
Halt President Trump’s Planned $100 Million Military Parade (https://www.change.org/p/halt-president-trump-s-planned-100-million-military-parade)

Call out this waste and demand those funds go to veterans and real needs.
Stop Donald Trump from Using Taxpayers’ Funds for a 79th Birthday Military Parade (https://www.change.org/p/stop-donald-trump-from-using-tax-payers-funds-for-a-79th-birthday-military-parade)
Make it clear we don’t want our money spent on this circus.

Care2 Petition
Tell Trump: Do not hold $92 million military parade for yourself! (https://www.thepetitionsite.com/596/244/422/tell-trump-do-not-hold-92-million-military-parade-for-yourself/)
Let’s stop this before it happens.

Join the “No Kings” protests on June 14. Bring your friends, your signs, and your voices. The bigger the crowd, the clearer the message: America doesn’t want a dictator’s parade. Share these links everywhere-social media, group chats, campus boards, wherever you can. The more people who see this, the stronger we get.

This is our money, our democracy, and our future. Don’t let Trump turn the military into his personal prop. Stand up, speak out, and let’s remind the country that we are not subjects-we are citizens. Go out, get loud, and make sure they can’t ignore us.

Good News for NC!
After six months of drama, recounts, and legal nonsense, Jefferson Griffin FINALLY conceded the NC Supreme Court race. He tried everything to throw out tens of thousands of legit votes (including military ballots and longtime North Carolinians who did everything right) just to flip the result after he lost.

Let’s be real-there was never any real legal basis for this circus. It was just an attempt to change the rules after the fact and mess with a fair election. But the courts held strong, the will of the voters was protected, and Justice Allison Riggs is officially the winner by 734 votes out of over 5.5 million cast. The rule of law actually worked!

Huge shoutout to everyone who fought to defend those votes and make sure every lawful ballot counted. This is how democracy is supposed to work. Let’s hope this sets a precedent so nobody tries this kind of stunt again.

Congrats, NC-your votes counted and your voices came through loud and clear! This is what patience, integrity, and sticking with it looks like. Keep pushing, America-let’s keep fighting to take our country back!
