Kirk Memorial

I do NOT support ANY political violence and think that this death was unjustified, cruel, and was an awful day for our country. No one should be killed for their politics, full stop. With that said, here’s what’s bothering me most about the Kirk memorial: seeing hundreds of thousands—including basically every U.S. leader and big MAGA figure—coming together and elevating him as if he were a national hero feels like rewriting history. Yes, the man had fans and yes, he was a bridge-builder in his own way, but he also put out some absolutely vile rhetoric. He pushed bigotry and went out of his way to stoke division for kicks. So, let’s not pretend sainthood here.

As for the actual memorial, it was a mix of what you’d expect: a flood of religious overtones, talk of martyrdom, some genuine grief, and a mega-dose of political chest-thumping. Trump delivered the keynote—a campaign speech in everything but name—using the moment to ramp up attacks on left-wing “extremism” without acknowledging violence on the right. The vibe from Trump and his circle wasn’t one of national healing. In fact, Trump and his top admin went so far as to paint the left as violent enemies, blaming them for Kirk’s death despite police saying the shooter acted alone and was motivated by anger at Kirk’s rhetoric.

There was almost no self-reflection or call for turning down the temperature. When school shootings or broader political violence came up, it was always in the context of blaming their enemies. No honest engagement with the realities of gun violence or what pushes people to the brink—just political ammo to push the “us vs. them” narrative further. Stephen Miller and others pledged to “triumph over evil” (meaning the left), literally calling for people to channel their anger and double down on fighting their “enemies.” Straight red meat to the base, with zero effort to lower tensions or unite.

Kirk’s widow did speak out about forgiveness—she even said she forgives her husband’s killer, referencing Jesus’ words on the cross. That was basically the only overt appeal to grace or peace. Most everything else was about how Kirk’s movement would come back stronger, how the left supposedly wants conservatives silenced or dead, and how his death must galvanize supporters to action—not love, not reconciliation, just more relentless fighting.

All in all - NOBODY poured water on the fire. The gasoline can was out all day, and the message felt like “get ready for battle.” No meaningful mention of school shootings as a crisis, no introspection on political violence’s root causes—just more division, anger, and rally cries.

RFK cracked what causes “autism”…lmao

Trump’s “historic” autism announcement today. Trump is gearing up to officially connect Tylenol (acetaminophen) use during pregnancy with autism, even though the mainstream medical world is pretty much rolling its eyes at this so-called breakthrough. He’s expected to go live at 4 p.m. Eastern with the full press show, touting “major medical findings” and standing side by side with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mehmet Oz. The word is, the administration is also going to float leucovorin—a drug used for cancer—as a potential autism treatment, along with banging the drum about Tylenol risk.

Trump and his crew have been hyping this up since the Charlie Kirk memorial, pitching it as if they’ve finally cracked the code on autism. Kennedy has been claiming for months that environmental factors (notably—not vaccines, for once) are fueling the jump in autism numbers, despite heaps of evidence that better diagnostics and broader definitions are behind the rise. The big “scientific” anchor they’re pointing to comes from a select few studies with weak links and a controversial Harvard review suggesting only the most “high-quality” studies find any connection—most experts still say causation hasn’t been established at all.

Medical authorities, the makers of Tylenol, and basically every mainstream research body are loudly disagreeing. Tylenol is the go-to painkiller for pregnant women since ibuprofen is off the table for most of pregnancy, so this new guidance (if Trump goes through with it) is already sparking massive backlash and worries about confusion for expectant moms.

There’s also speculation that a broader federal autism initiative is in the works—but the deep-dive report to back up all of Trump’s claims isn’t even finished yet. Public health experts are calling the whole thing premature, with a lot of concern that this could lead to dangerous changes in how pregnant women handle fevers or pain. Expect this to keep trending, as every parent group, OB-GYN, and autism advocate weighs in on what is shaping up to be one of the most controversial health announcements of Trump’s term.

Bondi….mission impossible…but go ahead

Trump went ballistic on socials, calling out AG Pam Bondi and demanding she use her legal muscle to go after the “usual enemies”—Comey, Schiff, Letitia James, the whole crew that’s tangled up with his impeachment and legal drama. He’s tired of what he sees as all talk, no action on getting vengeance, and this time he’s making it super public, posting direct orders for Bondi to indict and prosecute. As expected, the country lit up, with people throwing around “banana republic” accusations and warning that Trump’s vendetta show is giving off dictator vibes. Even some Republicans are calling it out of line and worrying Trump’s crossed into full-on weaponizing the Justice Department.

Meanwhile, MAGA influencers and fanatics are still on edge about the Epstein case. The DOJ’s claiming it did everything required and wants to call it quits, but MAGA diehards aren’t buying it. They smell a cover-up and want all the docs and receipts released, especially after the White House scrambled to deny Trump’s name was in that bizarre “birthday book” tied to Epstein. Trump’s own base is growing suspicious that their guy’s keeping skeletons locked away now, turning into the kind of shadowy elite he used to rail against. There have been pressers, House committees dropping thousands of pages, and hot takes galore—but nothing’s landed yet except more confusion and conspiracy fuel.

While everyone’s yelling “justice or bust,” Steve Bannon is out here warning Trump that his relentless score-settling and hush-hush backroom plays might finally blow up in his face—losing him hard-core MAGA support just when he needs the movement united. Allies are rallying, some are calling for more transparency, but critics are circling like sharks, pointing to hypocrisy and saying Trump’s got more in common with the old boys’ club than the populist crusader he still pretends to be.

Budget Update

If Johnson, Trump, and MAGA had actually passed their spending resolution, it would have gutted healthcare programs, sent costs for everyone with coverage soaring, and slashed support for working families. But since they couldn’t get even their own crew on board, there’s no budget at all — just a mess of finger-pointing and tactical retreats.

So who gets hammered when there’s zero budget?

Federal workers are most directly hit; they’re looking at involuntary, unpaid furloughs for anyone not deemed “essential.” That means paychecks stop for thousands, and even the folks forced to keep working (like air traffic controllers and customs officers) don’t see a dime until this circus ends.

Critical programs screech to a halt. Think passport offices, small business loans, food inspections, and grant processing. Agencies supporting vulnerable kids, housing, and nutrition cutoffs — all facing delays or outright shutdowns.

Healthcare isn’t immune: If funding lapses, clinics tied to federal grants may close doors or refuse new patients. Medicaid and Social Security checks still go out, but new applications and help for urgent cases can be left hanging.

National parks lock the gates, research grants stall, even safety inspections get shoved aside. SNAP (food stamps) might squeak by for weeks before benefits are cut, leaving families in limbo.

Private employers, contractors, and everyone who depend on the government for permits or business get pushed to the edge as projects and payments are frozen.

And let’s not ignore the bigger pain: Every week Congress drags its feet, the economy shrinks another $3-5 billion thanks to lost work, paused services, and just pure anxiety.

Now what’s MAGA’s play? It’s the same old routine: “Look, we tried, but Democrats blocked us, so blame them!” Never mind the fact that their own bill was loaded with brutal cuts and hikes for anyone with insurance or in need of medical care. The whole maneuver is about shifting blame, drumming up outrage, and pushing for time so their base thinks they’re fighting the good fight. If Democrats negotiate or demand compromise, MAGA calls it sabotage. If nothing gets done, MAGA calls it a win for “draining the swamp.” And for the rest of America just trying to get by, it’s more chaos with no end in sight.

Is Green Beans opening back up at Bagram? (This was our place to get the “best” coffee while there)

Trump’s out here rattling sabers demanding Afghanistan hand back Bagram Air Base, dropping heavy hints about taking it by force if the Taliban doesn’t play ball. He’s tossing around threats like “bad things will happen,” and he refuses to rule out using troops, but so far it’s mostly chest-thumping and not a single confirmed new deployment.

The Taliban responded right away, flat-out rejecting Trump’s demands and basically telling him “not even one inch” of Afghan land is up for negotiation. They’re invoking the Doha Agreement and repeatedly saying that Afghanistan’s territorial integrity is non-negotiable. Even inside the Pentagon and among former officials, the consensus is that storming in to retake Bagram would look like a full-on re-invasion, requiring thousands of boots on the ground, and that’s not something there’s public appetite or a clear legal green light for.

While Trump is running his mouth about reclaiming Bagram and warning of unspecified consequences, nothing concrete has happened yet, and the military brass is telling folks to cool it unless there’s an actual directive or Congressional approval. It’s loud, chaotic, and reckless rhetoric, but right now, there’s no active war breaking out and no soldiers heading back to Bagram. So, no need to have friends “buy” you credits as of yet if you are still wearing a uniform.
