Iran war and Trump “loving” inflation

Trump is still out here talking like he’s playing a video game with real people’s lives, openly threatening to hit Iran “very hard” and promising more strikes after the helicopter shoot‑down and tanker incident, like escalation is just his favorite hobby. He’s pushing this fantasy that Iran’s military is “completely defeated” and acting like the war is basically wrapped up, when everyone who isn’t in his cult is warning the opposite and the region is clearly still on fire.

On top of that, he literally said he “loves inflation” now that it’s spiking again with war‑driven gas prices, bragging about the “fantastic” numbers like higher prices are some genius economic strategy instead of regular people getting squeezed even harder. He’s trying to spin this as proof his war and oil moves are working, when fact‑checkers have already torn apart his revisionist garbage about how inflation supposedly “only” existed under Biden and is somehow great under him.

The 70B border bill and ICE cruelty

Congress just shoved through about 70 billion more dollars for ICE and Border Patrol, locking in funding for the rest of Trump’s term, and it’s exactly the kind of white‑nationalist fever‑dream enforcement machine you’d expect from this crew. Almost all of it is going to ramp up arrests, detentions, deportations, and surveillance—more agents, more detention capacity, more tech, more ways to terrorize immigrants and asylum seekers instead of providing anything humane or logical.

Democrats and immigrant‑rights groups are already warning that this basically hands ICE a blank check with almost no meaningful oversight, which is terrifying given their history of abuse, deaths in custody, and secretive detention practices. You can hear the white‑nationalist energy in the way Republicans are celebrating this—framing immigrants as an “invasion,” treating families and workers as enemies to be hunted, and ignoring the human beings who will absolutely suffer under this.

Hegseth playing empire at Guantánamo

Pete Hegseth went down to Guantánamo Bay and did his macho pep‑rally thing, warning Cuba not to get weapons that could reach the base or the U.S. and basically daring them to “invite confrontation.” Then he hits the line that “the future of Cuba is in the hands of President Trump and the leadership of Cuba,” which is exactly the arrogant imperial nonsense it sounds like—like Trump is somehow co‑owner of the country.

He’s posturing as if the U.S. is morally entitled to dictate Cuba’s future while Trump ramps up sanctions and military threats, and Republican hawks drool over the idea of using Guantánamo for whatever sick new scheme they’re cooking up. The whole vibe is “we own you, and if you step out of line, we’ll smack you,” which is exactly why people outside the MAGA bubble see this as dangerous and destabilizing, not “strong leadership.”

Screwworm is not a joke

On top of all the political chaos, the New World screwworm just showed up again in the U.S., confirmed in a calf in Zavala County, Texas, and that’s a huge problem for animals if it spreads. These flies lay eggs in open wounds, and the larvae literally eat living flesh, so if this isn’t contained fast, livestock, wildlife, and even pets are at serious risk.

USDA is moving into emergency mode—containment zones, surveillance, and those sterile‑fly releases they use to wipe out populations—but right now the official line is that only one case has been confirmed and they’re trying to keep it that way. It’s exactly the kind of thing that can spiral quietly in the background while everyone’s eyes are on Iran and the border; if it pops up in more states, ranchers and shelters are going to feel it hard.

Nancy Lacore vs. Mace world

There is a small bright spot: Nancy Lacore, the former Navy admiral Hegseth fired, just made it into the Democratic runoff in South Carolina’s 1st District, aiming for the seat Nancy Mace is walking away from. She’s a veteran who was pushed out by this crew and is now turning around and trying to take a swing at the system from the ballot, which is exactly the kind of “kick ass and take names” energy this moment needs.

The district is still drawn to favor Republicans, so she’s not walking into an easy race, but even getting to a runoff is a sign that voters there are at least open to something other than the usual MAGA‑adjacent mess. If she wins the primary and then manages to flip that seat, it would be a very loud message back at Hegseth and the whole Trump defense apparatus that firing women doesn’t always end the way they think.

Bill Gates’ Epstein grilling

Bill Gates spent today facing the House Oversight Committee over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, and his whole stance is basically: yeah, I met him, it was a huge mistake, I never did anything illegal, and I never saw his crimes. In his opening statement, he said he never went to Epstein’s island, ranch, or Florida home, described a 2011–2014 window of contact around supposed philanthropy talks, and claimed he never took money from Epstein.

He also admitted Epstein learned about his extramarital affairs and tried to use that “sensitive information” to pressure him back into contact, which is exactly the kind of blackmail‑adjacent dynamic everyone suspected was happening in Epstein’s world. The bottom line: Gates is still insisting he saw nothing illegal, but he’s clearly trying to distance himself as far as possible now that Congress is dragging every powerful Epstein contact back into the spotlight.
