Lot's Happened today...but this is just some thoughts - 27 April 2025

Busy weekend over here-honestly didn’t even want to get into any heavy topics (and let’s be real, there are plenty). But I couldn’t help but notice all the photos and coverage from the Pope’s funeral. And yep, there’s Trump, front row with Melania and the rest of the world leaders, literally looking like he’s dozing off. Head down, eyes closed, caught on camera for everyone to see. Social media, of course, had a field day-especially with the irony, given how much he loves to call Biden “Sleepy Joe.” No official word from Trump’s camp on whether he was actually asleep or just “resting his eyes,” but come on, the pictures speak for themselves. It’s embarrassing, especially at such a major, solemn event.
But honestly, what’s been eating at me all weekend-and really all day-is this administration’s nonstop parade of using God, the Bible, and Jesus as props. The way they shout about following “biblical values” is just absurd. Today’s teaching at church was about Thomas-you know, doubting Thomas-finally believing Jesus had been resurrected. That was the moment it clicked for him; he KNEW in his heart and soul that Jesus really did rise, that the prophecy was fulfilled. And Jesus tells him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Lately, I feel something inside me has shifted. I’m more grounded than ever in my faith, and I get now-deep down-what it means to try to live in Jesus’ image. It’s personal. It’s emotional. And if you’ve felt it, you know exactly what I mean. That’s why it makes me so angry to keep hearing all this empty rhetoric from our so-called leaders, acting like they’re living some Godly life, when their actions say the exact opposite. Sure, we all mess up-we all sin, every single one of us. But I really do try to live with the understanding that it’s not just about me; it’s about all of us.
And as I learn more about Pope Francis-how he lived, the fights he took on, the people he cared for, how he’d call out evil when he saw it, and how he just embodied generosity and kindness-I see what it really means to love God and live that out. That’s what walking the walk looks like. Not this administration’s version, pretending they’re living in God’s image while everything they do screams otherwise.
Why This Administration’s “Christian” Narrative Is Absurd
Donald Trump
Claims: Loves to wave the Bible, calls himself a Christian, and pushes “Christian values” at every rally.
Reality:
- Spreads cruelty, vengeance, and division-all the stuff Jesus preached against.
- Policies hurt the poor, immigrants, and the vulnerable-the exact people Jesus said to care for.
- Uses religion as a prop for power, not as a guide for living.
JD Vance (Vice President)
Claims: Practicing Catholic, says Trump’s policies are “most in accord with Christian social teaching,” and loves to talk about “religious liberty.”
Reality:
- Uses faith as a political shield while backing policies that harm refugees and the marginalized.
- Frames American policy as some Christian crusade but ignores the actual suffering caused.
- Talks about “protecting Christians,” but never about loving your neighbor or caring for the least of these.
Pete Hegseth
Claims: Outspoken Christian nationalist, says America is a “Christian nation” and pushes a narrow religious agenda.
Reality:
- Praises religious conflict, demonizes Muslims and refugees, and advocates for policies that divide-not unite.
- Uses Christianity to justify fear, hate, and bigotry-missing the whole point of Jesus’ call for peace and compassion.
Pam Bondi
Claims: Leads a federal task force to fight “anti-Christian bias,” and loves to talk about Christian persecution.
Reality:
- Weaponizes faith to attack anyone who disagrees, especially on abortion and LGBTQ+ rights.
- Pushes a narrative of victimhood while supporting policies that strip away rights and target minorities.
- More interested in scoring political points than actually living out Christian values like honesty and mercy.
Karoline Leavitt (White House Press Secretary)
Claims:** Wears her cross, talks up Christian values in every press briefing.
Reality:
- Pushes lies and disinformation while hiding behind faith.
- Uses Christianity as a costume, not a calling-just another tool for political theater.
- Supports policies that harm the poor and marginalized, while pretending to be a moral leader.
Kristi Noem
Claims: Says her “relationship with the Lord is my foundation,” claims God called her to office, and pushes Christian “values” in government.
Reality:
- Uses faith to justify hardline stances on guns, immigration, and “religious freedom”-but only for Christians.
- Wants to erase the line between church and state, ignoring Jesus’ own teachings about humility and service.
- Publicly prays for power, but not for compassion or justice.
Kash Patel
Claims: Publicly identifies as Christian, touts “Christian values” in interviews.
Reality:
- Known for spreading conspiracy theories, attacking the press, and defending cruelty in immigration and law enforcement.
- Uses faith as a shield while pushing policies that are the opposite of Christ’s teachings.
Stephen Miller
Claims: Not Christian (identifies as Jewish), but constantly pushes “Christian nation” rhetoric and policies that supposedly defend Christian America.
Reality:
- Architect of the Muslim ban, family separation, and slashing refugee admissions-policies that directly contradict Jesus’ teachings on loving your neighbor and welcoming the stranger.
- His own family calls him an “immigration hypocrite” for betraying their roots as refugees.
- Uses Christian language to justify cruelty and exclusion, despite not practicing the faith he claims to defend.
Elon Musk
Claims: Now calls himself a “cultural Christian,” says he believes in Christian principles and talks up “Christian values” at political events.
Reality:
- For years, was openly atheist and mocked religion; now suddenly embraces Christianity for political gain.
- Admits he doesn’t actually believe in the supernatural claims of Christianity-just likes the aesthetics and the political benefits.
- Uses “Christianity” as a branding tool while his actions, business practices, and personal conduct contradict the core of Christian teaching.
Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson
Claims: Deeply connected to Christian nationalism, says America should be governed by “biblical principles.”
Reality:
- Works to undermine the constitutional separation of church and state.
- Pushes a narrow, exclusionary version of Christianity that’s about control, not compassion.
- Spends more time rewriting history than actually living out Christ’s teachings.
Every one of these people loves to talk about being Christian and loving God, but their actions tell a different story. They use faith as a political weapon-cherry-picking verses to justify cruelty, exclusion, and power grabs. Meanwhile, they ignore everything Jesus actually taught about loving your neighbor, caring for the poor, welcoming the stranger, and standing up for the vulnerable. If you really know the Bible, it’s obvious-they’re not walking with Christ. If you don’t know the bible or don’t believe…you probably understand how hurtful this actually is to those of us who do believe.
